German auto parts maker Schefenacker plans to set up a center to develop car mirrors at its unit in Hungary, the CEO of the unit, called Sapu Bt, said on Friday.
Four engineers who will staff the center are being trained by Schefenacker in Germany, and the center will hire another 12 engineers next year, Antal Mihalicz said. Car mirrors became the main product at the unit, based in Mosonszolnok, near Hungary's border with Austria, after Schefenacker moved headlight assembly to Slovenia.
Schefenacker recently completed a Ft 2 billion investment at Sapu's painting facility and a Ft 1.5 billion investment at its die-cast facility. Sapu turns out 25,000 mirrors a day. Among its biggest clients are Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi, Opel, Ford, BMW and Magyar Suzuki Zrt. The unit expects revenue of €142 million in 2006, level with last year.
