Samsung targets 20% increase in revenue from handset sales

The Hungarian unit of Korea's Samsung targets revenue of Ft 18 billion in 2006, 20% more than in 2005, sales director Balázs Kunos announced on Sunday.

Samsung Electronics Magyar expects to sell 500,000 mobile telephone handsets in 2006, 50,000 more than a year earlier. Already in the first quarter of 2006, the unit sold 120,000 handsets, generating revenue of Ft 3.5 billion. The number of handsets increased 60% and revenue was up 20% from the same period a year earlier. Samsung achieved a market share of over 20%, making it the second biggest player on the market. The company plans to achieve a market share of 25%-27% by the end of the year.
Kunos noted that sales were strong in January and weak in February and March, but added that he expects sales to increase continuously compared to the base for the rest of the year, judging from the stock of orders.
