Russia's air carrier Aeroflot has so far made the most concrete offer for the purchase of Jat Airways, Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Velimir Ilić says.
Minister of Infrastructure Velimir Ilić has said that Russian Aeroflot offered to keep all Jat Airways employees, settle debts of the company and purchase new aircrafts. “The government should decide whether the Russian company can became an owner of a portion of Jat Airways stock,” Ilić said. Minister of economy and regional development Mlađan Dinkić confirmed Thursday that numerous buyers showed interest in Serbia’s national airliner, adding that the government should decide on the terms of Jat's privatization by the end of June. Ilić told Večernje Novosti newspaper that the privatization of Jat would be the best solution for the company, given that Jat on its own lacked capacity to make necessary purchase of new planes.
