Russian vegetable import ban hurts Hungary exporters

Russia's Thursday ban on the import of fresh vegetables from the European Union will affect Hungay as 10pc-15pc of the country's fruit and vegetable exports go to Russia, Bela Matonffy, President of the vegetable- and fruit-growers' interest group FruitVeB told MTI on Thursday evening.

Hungary exports about 100,000-150,000 tonnes of vegetable to Russia, the deliveries are worth between HUF 20bn and HUF 25bn, he said.

The exports grew 26pc last year and they had planned a further rise this year, Mr Martonffy said.
