Hungarian vehicle and vehicle parts maker Rába extended its portfolio with new products for the bus market in line with its business strategy, the company announced on Tuesday. The second-generation of disc brake axles has been made for low floor buses, which are gaining strength in city public transportation. The new family of seats under the brand name of “Herend” has been designed to meet the future needs of city and intercity buses and trams.

In Eastern Europe and the CIS countries, where Rába is traditionally well positioned, the proportion of low-floor vehicles in the newly marketed buses is increasing, the company said. The axles of low-floor vehicles have to equally comply with the severe requirements of floor height, accessible passenger space, and loading capacity.

The development of the disc brake axles was carried out in cooperation between the Rába Development Institute, founded last year, and the construction team. The new “Herend” seat type has been designed to meet the future needs of city and intercity public transportation. Thanks to new production technology, the seat – in line with market tendencies – weighs 40% less and fully complies with the ergonomic requirements.

“In the bus market, which is a strategic sector for Rába, the aim of our product development based on current trends is to further strengthen our position by exploiting our capabilities as fully as possible”, pointed out Rába CEO István Pintér. “Our strategic objective is to step forward with our own developments, or with product innovation developed jointly with the customers, so that we could serve Rába’s traditional markets at a higher level, and we could extend the circle of our cooperating business partners.” (GL)
