Plastic maker shuts down operation

US-based plastics maker will shut down production at its west Hungarian plant in Nagyigmánd and hive off its remaining 57 staff by end of August, wire agency MTI reported, citing an unnamed employee. Nypro Hungary Kft, the local subsidiary, will not sell its sites in Nagyigmánd and Tata, but will halt production indefinitely, the report said. Nypro set up in Hungary in 2003 and has supplied plastic components to the nearby Nokia factory in Komárom. The company was forced to slash its workforce from nearly a thousand in 2007 to under a hundred today owning to dried-up orders. Nypro operates in 16 countries worldwide and has over 12,000 people on staff. (MTI-Econews)
