Pick Szeged has resumed production of Herz salami products six months after Hungary's competition office GVH approved Bonafarm Zrt's takeover of the Herz Salami Factory, Bonafarm told MTI.
GVH approved in March 2010 the takeover of Herz Salami Factory, under liquidation, by Bonafarm Zrt, a company owned by OTP CEO and food-industry magnate Sándor Csányi. Bonafarm acquired 100% of the assets of the 128-year-old Herz in December 2009. Some of these have been moved to Szeged, where nine Herz products are now made.
The factory's assets were estimated at HUF 3.5 billion, including HUF 1.7 billion for brands and patents, HUF 1.43 billion for property and HUF 320m for machinery and equipment. The value of stocks was HUF 50m.
Herz's flagship product Budapest winter salami was granted "protected designation of origin" status by the European Commission shortly before it was ordered under liquidation in May 2009. (MTI-Econews)
