The Pécs (S Hungary) local council will issue a new tender for the operation and development of the Pécs-Pogány Airport, the business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Monday.
Pécs Deputy Mayor Bertalan Tóth told the newspaper that the local council would like to have the 110-hectare airport operating again by 2010, when the Pécs will assume the title of European Capital of Culture.
A total of HUF 4 billion (€13.93 million) has been spent from various sources on development of the airport over recent years, Napi Gazdaság wrote.
Austrian Airlines operated a flight between Vienna and the Pécs-Pogány Airport for a short period as a result of the developments, discontinuing the flight because it was unprofitable. (MTI-Econews)
