PannonPower Zrt may resume extraction of coal at the surface mine in the Vasas district of the city of Pécs (S Hungary), the regional daily Új Dunántúli Napló reported on Thursday.
PannonPower President-CEO Attila Péterffy told the newspaper that the company had determined that there is still 3m tons of coal available for extraction at the mine, which closed in 2004. Mr Péterffy said that a more than threefold rise in the global price of coal since that time had prompted the company to examine the possibility of resuming mining operations at the site.
The PannonPower president-CEO said the company could begin extracting coal at the mine this year, noting that the amount of coal mined at the site would satisfy regional demand. (MTI)
