Gas engineering company OTF Contracting Company was the biggest winner of public procurement tenders in Hungary in 2009 on the strength of a single HUF 78.9 billion tender to build part of a pipeline connecting gas networks in Hungary and Croatia, Magyar Közbeszerzési Hírbörze, which compiles information on public procurement tenders, said in a report on 2009.
The Hungarian unit of Austrian oil and gas company OMV was the second-biggest public procurement winner, taking seven contracts worth a combined HUF 43.3 billion. The Hungarian unit of French construction giant Colas was the third-biggest public procurement winner, signing 69 contracts worth a combined HUF 35 billion.
In 2008, Hungarian oil and gas company MOL was the biggest public procurement winner, with 15 contracts worth a combined HUF 76.9 billion.
The Magyar Közbeszerzési Hírbörze report showed that the number of open tenders rose to 3,829 in Hungary in 2009 from 2,813 in 2008. The value of these tenders rose to HUF 944.37 billion from HUF 751.3 billion.
The percentage of voided tenders rose to 17.8% in 2009. Magyar Közbeszerzési Hírbörze attributed the increase to a rise in the number of bidders with little experience participating in public procurement procedures. (MTI-Econews)
