Market share in Hungary of German carmaker Opel rose 2 percentage points to 11.6% in the first half of this year from the same period a year earlier, Opel Magyarorszag brand director Tamas Kovacs told journalists on Monday.
Opel sold 2,980 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Hungary in H1, Kovacs said. Corporate sales accounted for 70% of the total, he added.
Kovacs sees the market expanding 10% this year. The number of new vehicles sold could rise to an annual 100,000 in 2-3 years and to 150,000 by 2014 or 2015, he said.
Opel laid the cornerstone of a EUR 500m engine plant at its base in Szentgotthard (W Hungary) in April.
