OBI takes top spot in DIY market

DIY chain OBI Hungary Kft had revenues of Ft 47.5 billion in the fiscal year between May 2004 and April 2005, for the first time surpassing the 2005 turnover of archrival Praktiker Kft, OBI country manager László Reiter said at a press conference yesterday.

With sales revenue growing 25% year on year, 2005 was clearly OBI Hungary's best year so far, he added. The company, which also tops the list of DIY chains in terms of total retail space with 18 units, is planning to open four or five new stores in the current financial year, getting close to the targeted number of 25-26 stores nationwide.
Reiter expects Ft 6 billion revenue growth this year, driven more by the interior and garden departments than construction material sales.
