New car sales up 6.6% yr/yr in Q1

Sales of new cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in Hungary rose 6.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2006 to 44,998 units, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) said yesterday. Suzuki sold the most new cars and SUVs in the first quarter- 9,586 vehicles, up 7% year-on-year. Suzuki's market share rose to over 21% during the period. Opel was second, selling 4,537 cars and SUVs, 2.1% more than in the same period a year earlier. Opel's market share rose from 10.1% to 11% in the twelve months to March. Third was Ford with 4,205 cars and SUVs sold, 35.2% more than in the first quarter of 2005. Ford had a market share of 9.3%, up from 7.4% in the first three months of 2005.
