One flight, operated by Lufthansa to Munich, has been cancelled and several services suffered delay at Ferihegy airport on Monday morning as a result of volcanic ash from Iceland, airport operator Budapest Airport spokesman Károly Szilágyi said.
Further delays are expected during the day, including a WizzAir service from Barcelona and a Delta flight from New York. The latter is forced to take an alternative route because of the drifting ash.
Aviation service HungaroControl spokesman Imre Fehér said that Hungary did not need to seal its airspace. The volcanic ash was highly diluted when it reached Hungarian airspace on Sunday evening and so it did not pose a threat to aircraft, he added. (MTI – Econews)
