Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Japan's sixth-largest automaker, lost its appeal in a ¥5.5 mln ($45,900) damage suit over a fatal accident involving one of its trucks.
The Tokyo High Court today upheld a lower court's order that Mitsubishi Motors must compensate the family of Shiho Okamoto, who was killed by a wheel that came off a Mitsubishi truck in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, in January 2002. Her two children were also injured. „We mourn the loss of life for Okamoto's family and sincerely apologize to the family,” Mitsubishi Motors said in a statement. The company declined to comment on the ruling. Shares of Mitsubishi Motors fell 0.5% to ¥196 at the 3 p.m. close on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. (Bloomberg)
