Minister sees new consumer protection act before year-end

Hungary's new consumer protection act will be approved before the end of the year, National Economy Minister Gyorgy Matolcsy told Parliament's Consumer Protection Committee on Monday.

The fourth set of talks on Hungary's mid-term consumer protection policy will be closed in August and the new strategy will be ready by the autumn, as will the draft of the consumer protection act,  Matolcsy said.

The strategy will strengthen the market watchdog, make the interest of consumers the focus of regulations, expand the range of legal tools available to consumer protection authorities and give more weight to their recommendations.
