Sweden's Metro International has agreed to sell Metropol, a daily distributed free of charge in Budapest, to Hungary's Megapolis Media, Metro International's Hungarian unit MTG Metro Gratis told MTI on Monday.
The sale is to take place in the framework of a franchise agreement.
The new owner does not plan any changes to the paper's structure or staff, that is, readers will continue to get the paper they are used to, MTG Metro Gratis managing director Peter Hivatal told MTI. However, the buyer is expected to expand the number of locations from which the paper is distributed, adding several cities outside of Budapest.
The paper will no longer be in Metro International's consolidated balance after June 6.
