Sales at McDonald's restaurants in Hungary rose 12% to HUF 38.7 billion in 2008, McDonald's Magyarországi Étterem Hálózat said on Thursday.
McDonald's restaurants in Hungary served 79 million guests in 2008. The restaurants generated operating profit of HUF 1.54 billion.
The fast food chain spent HUF 2.5 billion on investments, opening 5 new restaurants and 8 McCafé units, as well as renovating nine restaurants.
McCafé units drew 1.3 million visitors in 2008 and revenue rose to more than HUF 780 million. Revenue from sales of breakfast products was almost HUF 3 billion.
McDonald's has not been unaffected by the economic crisis: its restaurants served fewer guests in January-March compared to the same period a year earlier, but the number picked up again in April.
This year, investments at McDonald's restaurants are expected to come to HUF 1.8 billion as 2-3 new restaurants are opened and 6-8 undergo renovation.
There are 99 McDonald's restaurants in Hungary: 52 are operated as franchises by 25 Hungarian partners and 47 are operated by McDonald's Magyarországi Étterem Hálózat. (MTI-ECONEWS)
