Revenue of McDonald's fast-food restaurants in Hungary fell 3.3% to HUF 37.4 billion in 2009, McDonald's Magyarországi Étterem Hálózat told MTI.
In spite of the drop in revenue, McDonald's held its top spot among Hungary's fast-food restaurants with 14.3% market share.
McDonald's unit in Hungary had operating profit of HUF 977 million in 2009, down from HUF 1.54 billion in 2008 mainly because of external factors such as exchange rates.
The 100 McDonald's restaurants and 33 McCafes served 77.6 million guests during the year, down from 79 million in 2008.
McDonald's spent HUF 2.3 billion of its own resources on investments in 2009, mainly on developments at existing restaurants. Just one new restaurant and three McCafes were opened during the year, but nine restaurants were renovated. The cost of opening the new restaurant came to HUF 700 million.
In 2008, McDonald's spent HUF 2.5 billion on investments, opening five new restaurants and eight McCafes, and renovating nine restaurants.
Half of the McDonald's units in Hungary are owned by McDonald's Magyarországi Étterem Hálózat and half are franchises. (MTI – Econews)
