MÁV losses less than targeted in 2009

State-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV had a loss of HUF 33.9 billion in 2009, well under the targeted loss of HUF 64.4 billion, the company told MTI on Thursday.

MÁV made HUF 9.2 billion in cost-savings in 2009 because of efficiency improvements, the company said. Continuing these measures is the most important task for 2010, it added.

Scheduled services, security and planned technical improvements need stable financial background in which the state has necessarily a part to play, MÁV said. (MTI-ECONEWS)
