The debts of state-owned railway company MÁV must start being settled during the current government's term, but the process will probably not be completed during the term, National Development Minister Tamás Fellegi said on the sidelines of an event.
A financial mechanism has to be created that allows the sustainable financing of public transport, including MÁV, Fellegi said. Settling debts is part of this, he added.
“I do not think it probable that MÁV's debts can be consolidated in a single step,” he said. The task is not to eliminate MÁV's debts, but to make them manageable from the fiscal point of view without having the company end up in a "debt trap" time and time again, he added. (MTI – Econews)
