Hungarian airline Malév Rt carried 11.7% more passengers on scheduled flights in the first quarter of 2006 than in the same period a year earlier, the company announced on Monday.
Load factor improved 3% during the period, and revenue from flights rose 19%, more than targeted. Malév's market share in Hungary rose to 42.2% in Q1 2006 from 40.4% a year earlier.
The airline said it expects to carry its one-millionth passenger this year sometime around the end of May. It has continued to expand the most in Eastern Europe in Q1, but achieved a 6% increase on its flights to Western Europe as well.
