Hungarian national airline Malév Rt carried its one-millionth passenger of the year on Tuesday, one month earlier than in 2005, the airline announced.
Malév’s passenger numbers increased 15% in May, compared to the same month a year earlier. In January-April, passenger numbers increased 13% from the same period in 2005.
During the same period, passenger numbers grew the most on Malév’s flight to Copenhagen (up 41%), followed by Larnaca in Cyprus (39%), Athens (33%) and New York (13%). In April, the number of passengers on flights to Madrid increased 40% year on year as a result of a code-sharing agreement with oneworld alliance member Iberia. Malév expects to carry 11% more passengers in 2006 than the 3.055 million in 2005. It targets a similar increase in revenue over 2005's Ft 97 billion.
