A Macedonian businessman, suspected of embezzling €60 million, was handed over to Macedonian police by Serbian authorities on Thursday afternoon, said news reports from Skopje, capital of Macedonia.
Metodija Smilenski, a former banker, was wanted by Macedonian authorities for financial fraud and money laundering, and was accused of embezzling €60 million ($79 million) from his Ex-Im Bank, leading to its bankruptcy. Smilenski fled to Serbia and was arrested in Belgrade one year ago. His extradition came one day before the pre-extradition detention deadline, Macedonia's news agency Makfax reported. (people.com.cn)
