Aircraft maintenance and repair company Lufthansa Technik Budapest, a joint venture of Germany's Lufthansa Technik and Hungarian carrier Malév, is mulling plans to build another hangar at its base at Liszt Ferenc International Airport, business daily Világgazdaság said on Friday.
The HUF 3 billion investment could start in 1-2 years, although the final decision will depend on the global economy and the outlook for the sector, Lufthansa Technik Budapest deputy head Sándor Szomora told the paper. The company needs to build the hangar if it is to raise its annual revenue over HUF 8.5-9 billion, he added.
Lufthansa Technik Budapest had revenue of HUF 8.5 billion in 2011. After-tax profit rose to HUF 640 million from HUF 522 million.
Szomora said it is a challenge to find labot in Hungary because only about 5-10 qualified aircraft technicians with foreign language skills complete their training each year.
Lufthansa Technik Budapest has 350 staff.
