Laird Technologies, a unit of Laird Plc, will have laid off about 500 workers from its factory at Szombathely (west Hungary), in the six months to February, the local newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday.
The mobile phone parts maker is to lay off 127 workers on Feb. 5, 2009, due to a slump in demand for mobile phones, the paper said on its www.vasnepe.hu home page, quoting the plant’s top official, Ola Fredriksson.
Last month, Laird Technologies, which had a workforce of 700 people in September, cut its staff to 375, the paper reported. Laird Technologies officials were not immediately available for comment. (Reuters)
