Kométa, which is owned by the Italian Pedranzini and Ruffini families, is one of Hungary's leading pork meat-processing companies. With their world-class products Kométa has become an outstandingly important market player not only in Hungary, but in several countries of the European Union in the past few years. Their success brought great reputation of the Hungarian products abroad, as 50% of the company’s revenue comes from export. Italian owners inject Ft 1.25 billion into Hungarian meat company Kométa, MTI reported.
Hungarian pork processing company Kométa, previously known as Pini, has reported H1 sales of Ft 12 billion (€46.8 million), including Ft 6 billion from exports. According to László Kovács, managing director of Kométa the Hungarian outfit sells some 70% of its exports in Italy, Spain, Croatia and Slovenia. Kovács predicted that sales will this year rise to Ft 23.64 billion from last year's Ft 17.7 billion, with exports rising from Ft 8.86 billion to Ft 11. billion.
Kométa also plans to increase its slaughtering capacity, although it has no plans to open its own pig farms in the foreseeable future. Elsewhere, Kométa plans to purchase a chopping and packaging line for Ft 550 million, and a ham production and slicing line for Ft 400 million. Their most important markets are Italy, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Germany, the Southern Slavic regions and the Eastern-European countries. Prime pork products (leg, loin, boned loin, boned belly, collar) are the company’s main export, chilled or frozen.
