There were 2,009m internet subscriptions in Hungary at the end March 2008, 34.4% more than twelve months earlier and were up 9.6% from the end of last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.Wireless internet subscriptions rose 67.3% year-on-year (yr/yr) to 496,905 and accounted for 24.7% of all broadband subscriptions at the end of March, up from 23.7% in December 2007.
Within the broadband internet segment, the number of cable network subscriptions rose 46.4% yr/yr to almost 650,000, while the number of xDSL subscriptions increased 20.0% to 780,000 at the end of March.
Internet service providers (ISP) had revenue of Ft 31.769 billion (€122.5 million) in Q1 2008, up 23.3% from a year earlier. Revenue rose 5.7% in Q1 from the last quarter 2007.
There were 417 ISPs in Hungary at the end of March up from 326 at the end of December. The market remained highly concentrated, with 19 ISPs accounting for 90% of all subscriptions. (MTI – Econews)
