There were 2.319 million internet subscriptions in Hungary at the end of March 2009, up 0.3% from the end of last year and up 15.8% in twelve months, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.
Wireless internet subscriptions fell 4.4% in three months and 29.7% in twelve months to 648,593 at the end of March.
Within the broadband internet segment, the number of cable subscriptions rose 2.6% in the first quarter to 736,667, while the number of xDSL subscriptions increased only 0.1% to 807,106. The respective twelve-month increases were 15.8% and 2.4%.
Internet service providers (ISP) had revenue of HUF 37.718 billion in Q1 2009, up a slight 2.9% from the previous quarter, but up12.3% from a year earlier.
There were 391 ISPs in Hungary at the end of March, down 12 in three months and 26 less in one year. The market remained highly concentrated, with 24 ISPs accounting for 90% of all subscriptions. (MTI – Econews)
