There were 2.319 million internet subscriptions in Hungary at the end December 2008, up 6.0% from the end of September and up 26.6% in twelve months, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.
Wireless internet subscriptions rose 12.5% in three months and 56.3% in twelve months to 678,954 at the end of December.
Within the broadband internet segment, the number of cable subscriptions rose 3.3% in the fourth quarter to 717,387, while the number of xDSL subscriptions increased only 0.8% to 814,037. The respective twelve-month increases were 27.3% and 10.1%.
Internet service providers (ISP) had revenue of HUF 36.86 billion in Q4 2008, up a slight 0.7% from the previous quarter, but up 26.7% from a year earlier.
There were 403 ISPs in Hungary at the end of 2008, up 4 in three months and up 77 in one year. The market remained highly concentrated, with 25 ISPs accounting for 90% of all subscriptions. (MTI – Econews)
