Hybridbox, a Hungarian company that makes and sells devices that combine internet and television services, announced on May 6 that its 100%-owned unit, HomeSys Media Ltd, and SPI International, the 100%-owned unit VoWeb International, have signed a letter-of-intent to distribute HomeSys hybrid television-software and -hardware in Israel.
The units aim to find out until August 31, 2011 what technological, content- and service-related conditions are necessary to launch the HomeSys hybrid TV service (including distribution of the HybridBox as well) in Israel.
Under the letter of intent UK-based VoWeb International intends to buy 10k units of Hybridbox at the end of this year.
The HomeSys hybrid television-solution consists of hardware, a software platform (middleware) and the Content Management software servicing these. The hardware, named HybridBox, is a so-called hybrid set-top-box with broadband connection, capable of receiving the broadcast TV signal. The software, named HomeSys Media Platform, allows the viewer to use the television screen to access internet content and use Video-On-Demand services in addition to viewing live television broadcasts.
