Nearly half of the country’s Top-500 companies are based in Budapest and 60% of these have affiliates outside the capital, a report by the business magazine HVG to be published today shows.
A total of 6,500 companies were examined to compile the two Top-500 lists. One list shows companies ranked according to their revenues and exports in 2005 and the other shows companies ranked by profits in proportion to revenues and shareholders' equity.
The first list is headed by oil and gas company Mol Nyrt, followed by carmaker Audi Hungária Kft, mobile telecommunications company Nokia Komárom, telco company Magyar Telekom Nyrt and GE Hungary. Interestingly enough the top-500 companies income turned out to increase the same 14.4% as similar companies internationally in 2005.
The second list is led by GE, followed by Mol, OTP Bank Nyrt, Audi and Magyar Telekom. According to HVG, changes to the lists which have been compiled since 2000 show that companies based in areas accessible by motorways grow faster than companies in other regions.
Just an interesting bit of the Top-500 data, that in Budaörs, (city next to the capital, on the west with 26 thousand inhabitants) the number of registered companies were the same as the number in the four counties of Tolna, Nógrád, Somogy and Békés at the end of the list. (HVG, Mti)
