The Hungarian government expects to hold bilateral talks with Russia soon on a 21.2% stake Surgutneftegaz holds in Hungarian peer MOL, Hungarian Development Minister Tamas Fellegi said on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Surgutneftegas acquired its stake in MOL from Austrian peer OMV for €1.4 billion in March 2009. MOL's management called the deal unfriendly and Hungary's president expressed concern about the transaction.
Officials of the two governments discussed the matter in Moscow in August.
Fellegi told journalists on Tuesday that Hungary's government has not held direct talks with Surgutneftegaz representatives about MOL.
“We have not had any direct negotiations with Surgutneftegaz...and yes, indeed, the Surgutneftegaz ownership question in MOL is on the table with the Russian government,” Reuters quoted Fellegi as saying.
He said Hungary wanted to find a solution for the issue involving both governments and both companies. (MTI-Econews)
