Hungary slaps hefty fine on Vodafone

Hungary's competition office GVH said it fined mobile communications company Vodafone Magyarország HUF 100 million (€370,000) for unfair business practices.

The GVH fined Vodafone for giving clients "an unrealistic picture" of a game involving premium text messages. The company's communications misled consumers about the content, rules and cost of the game, as well as about the chances of winning and the consequences of withdrawing from the game, the watchdog said.

The GVH regarded as aggravating circumstance the length and intensity of the campaign promoting the game, as well as the fact it established several times earlier that Vodafone Magyarország had misled consumers.
