Hungary maize crop seen falling to 4 million tons

Hungary's maize harvest is now seen reaching just over 4 million tons, down from an earlier estimated 4.5 million tons, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Thursday.

About 57% of the maize crop was harvested by October 1, the paper said, citing the National Cereal Growers Association.

Hungary's food safety authority said average yield thus far is 3.755 tons per hectare.

Maize was planted on 1.1 million hectares this year.

Last year, Hungarian farmers harvested 8.0 million tonnes of maize, data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show.
