Hungary M&A market declines but still biggest in region

The value of mergers and acquisitions in Hungary fell 29% to $3.2 billion in 2010, Ernst & Young division director Margaret Dezse said at a press conference on Thursday.

In spite of the decline, Hungary's M&A market was the biggest in the region last year, beating Romania ($3 billion), Poland ($2.4 billion) and the Czech Republic ($2 billion), Dezse said.

The values of 39% of the M&A transactions in Hungary were disclosed last year, compared to an average 48% for the region.

There were 90 M&A transactions closed in Hungary in 2010, down from 97 in 2009.
