Hungary: Domestic banks take up bulk of govt securities

  Domestic banks bought HUF 703 billion worth of Hungarian government securities in the Q4 of 2009, taking up the bulk of HUF 761 billion of papers sold by foreign investors in the period, a report by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) published on Monday shows.

The MNB was also an important buyer in the period, buying HUF 233 billion of bonds at auctions it launched in October as part of measures to increase liquidity on the practically locked up government bond markets. Businesses in the category of other financial mediators were net sellers to the tune of HUF 130 billion in the period. (MTI-Econews)
