Hungarians currently drink 30 million bottles of champagne a year, about 25% less than five years ago, the National Council of Wine Communities told MTI.
The organization said that 225,000 hectoliters of champagne are sold in Hungary per year, generating revenue of HUF 12 billion-HUF 15 billion.
Hungary produces between 180,000-200,000 hectoliters of champagne annually, of which approximately one-quarter is exported, primarily to Scandinavia and the Baltic states. Imports totaled 24,000 hectoliters last year.
The National Council of Wine Communities noted that about half of champagne sales in Hungary take place during the month of December. (MTI – Econews)
