Retail tea sales in Hungary rose 10% to HUF 12 billion in the twelve months to July from the previous twelve-month period, markets research company Nielsen said.
In volume terms, tea sales inched up 3% to 1,600 tons during the period, Nielsen said.
The market for filter herbal tea grew by two percentage points to 25%. The market for filter tea with real fruit expanded from 15% to 17% and the market for filter tea with fruit flavoring was flat at 21%. The market for plain filter black tea fell to 21% from 23%.
Prices in the four most popular categories were up 4%-14% in June and July from the same period a year earlier. Prices rose the most in April-July, although not because of the rise in Hungary's main VAT rate from July 1, Nielsen said.
The market share of house brands rose to 17% in June-July from 15% twelve months earlier. (MTI – Econews)
