Hungarian new car sales plunge 44% in February

Dealers sold 8,400 new cars and commercial vehicles in Hungary in February, 44% fewer than in the same month a year earlier, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported.

The Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) projects 110,000 new vehicles will be sold in Hungary this year, down from about 159,000 in 2008, when the market contracted a little more than 10%. If market conditions worsen, however, sales could drop to 85,000, MGE said.

Unit sales of brands carried by car seller Porsche Hungária fell almost 30% in February, the paper said. (MTI – Econews)
