Hungarian foie gras producers to set up professional association

Hungarian producers of foie gras will set up a professional association in order to strengthen their positions on domestic and export markets and to achieve a shift from raw material production towards processed products, while the town of Orosháza wants to have foie gras declared a distinctive Hungarian product, officials said at a press conference held on the occasion of the third Oroshaza (SW Hungary) foie gras festival at the weekend.

Minister of rural development Sandor Fazekas offered the support of the agrarmarketing centre under his ministry to launche a focused marketing campaign for the product.

The minister noted that Hungary's foie gras production reaches 1,600 tonnes per year, 80% of which is exported.
