The leaders of 10 companies in Hungary met on Wednesday in Rostov-on-Don (SW Russia) with representatives from 60 companies located in Russia's Rostov Oblast, Hungary's Ambassador to Russia György Gilyan told MTI on Wednesday evening.
Ambassador Gilyan, who led the Hungarian delegation on the visit to the city of over 1m inhabitants, said that companies in Hungary conducted between $30 million - $50 million in trade with those in the Rostov Oblast before the onset of the global economic crisis, though this amount had decreased significantly since then.
Hungary opened a foreign-trade office in Rostov-on-Don in January. Hungary's ambassador to Russia told MTI at that time that companies in Hungary did $4.8 million in trade with those in the Rostov Oblast in 2009.
Ambassador Gilyan said that Russian businessmen from the Rostov Oblast may visit Hungary in the fall if Wednesday's meeting proves to be fruitful. Hungary's ambassador to Russia noted that Don Cossacks are very fond of Hungarians. (MTI-Econews)
