Honda’s worldwide vehicle production plunged 33.5% in January, the company said Wednesday, the latest evidence of how Japan’s mainstay auto industry is being severely hit by the global slowdown.
Honda, Japan’s second biggest automaker, produced 226,551 vehicles in January. It was the third straight month in which the company’s global production has declined from a year earlier.
The fall was particularly severe in the US, where Honda’s production dropped 50.1% from a year earlier to 47,246 vehicles.
Honda’s production in Europe dropped by 50.8% to 11,514 vehicles, and its production in Japan slid 23% to 77,224 vehicles. (The Economic Times)
