The Hungarian unit of Korean tyre maker Hankook Tire has trained and hired 500 registered jobseekers in the past 18 months, Hankook Tire Magyarorszag communications manager Katalin Roy told MTI on Monday.
The company started training jobseekers, then offering them jobs, in partnership with regional labor centers and the Lorantffy Zsuzsanna School in Dunaujvaros in August 2009, Roy said. This year, Hankook expects to hire a further 250 people through the program, she added.
Hankook opened its plant outside of Dunaujvaros in the summer of 2007. It now employs more than 1,700 people to turn out some 17,000 tires a day for the European market.
An expansion of the plant started in 2009 and is expected to boost capacity to 10 million units a year. Headcount is set to rise to 1,900 from the second half of 2011 as a result.
