Guest nights at camp sites owned by Balatontourist, a unit of the SCD Group, were down just 5% by the middle of August compared to last season, well under the 10%-20% drop seen until the beginning of July, Balatontourist CEO Tibor Polgár told MTI.
Foreign and Hungarian guests spent 522,000 guest-nights at Balatontourist's campgrounds in the season until the middle of August, Polgár said. A drop in the number of guests from Western Europe was partly offset by increases in the number of Hungarian, Polish and Czech guests, he added.
The number of German visitors at Balatontourist was down 10%, the number of Danes dropped 20% and the number of Dutch guests fell 33%. But Hungarian guests numbers were up 13%, Polish guest numbers climbed 29% and the number of Czech guests increased 27%. The trend is similar across Europe, Polgár said, citing data from tourism agencies with whom Balatontourist is partners. (MTI – Econews)
