Gov’t still uncertain about Sunday closing

The government wants to evaluate some more studies on the possible effects of the Sunday closing law before arriving at a decision in the case, government spokesperson Anna Nagy said on Sunday.

There were several arguments for and against the law, too, Nagy said adding that it is too early to tell the date of the parliamentary vote. A day earlier, KDNP’s Péter Harrach, who presented the proposal, said that parliament would vote on the Sunday closing law by early summer at latest, online portal reports.

According to Harrach’s proposal, bigger shops could be open only on 12 Sundays per year while family-owned businesses that operate without employees could stay open all year, and so could somewhat offset their competitive disadvantages.
