Gov't seeks to reacquire previously privatized strategic companies, minister says

Hungary will attempt to reacquire stakes in previously privatized state-owned strategic companies, particularly those operating in economically strategic areas, National Development Minister Tamás Fellegi reconfirmed at a meeting in Budapest of Hungarian diplomats dealing with foreign economic affairs on Wednesday.

According to the minister, purchasing a 21.2% stake in Hungarian oil and gas company MOL from Russian peer Surgutneftegas was just a first example of the government's new asset management policy.

Fellegi also reiterated his May statement that the government considers conventional privatization activities to be concluded.
