GM Powertrain to make turbo engines

General Motors Powertrain started producing turbo engines at its plant in Szentgotthárd, near Hungary's border with Austria, on Friday, the company announced. The factory will turn out 6,000-8,000 of the turbo engines in the first year, then raise the number to 10,000. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder ECOTEC engines will go into the Opel Meriva. The plant already makes mid-sized engines. GM Powertrain's unit in Hungary, set up in 1990, had revenue of Ft 140 billion last year. It is the country's sixth-biggest exporter and employs more than 800 people.
