General Electric will lay off 227 workers at its Nagykanizsa (SW Hungary) unit, with the first group of 193 employees to be dismissed on December 19, the electronic workers' union in Nagykanizsa told MTI.
GE will lay off a further 34 workers on January 15.
Union head István Hederics said GE is providing workers with a decent severance pay.
GE announced at the end of October that it planned to reorganize production in Hungary. The company currently employs 15,000 workers at its eleven units in Hungary. (MTI – Econews)
