Foreign shoppers create retail jobs in Hungary

A big increase in shoppers from neighbouring countries that come to Hungary to take advantage of the weaker forint has created or saved 9,500-11,500 mostly retail jobs in the areas along the country's borders, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Wednesday, citing data from regional employment offices.

The number of shoppers from Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia has risen since the forint started weakening in the autumn. Slovakians, who use the euro, enjoy 15% more spending power in Hungary today than they did a year ago. (MTI-ECONEWS)
